A Brief outline of my travels so far, which did not really start until 1999. My first ever trip on an airplane was to Portugal. This short trip soon had me wanting to travel further. In February 2002 I made my first long haul flight, which was to India. The destination was Kovalam Beach in Kerala. The hotel was called The Ashok Beach Resort, I see this has changed name and is now called the The Leela, Kovalam Beach. An excellent place to visit and not quite as commercialised as Goa. Kerala is about 1000Km south of Goa. This holiday included a trip to the very tip of India, Cape Comorin, where three seas meet they are the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, & Bay of Bengal.
This holiday was followed, in February 2004; by a trip to Borneo. A long flight changing at Kuala Lumpur and on to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo. I stayed at the Rasa Ria Hotel, another excellent hotel right on the beach overlooking the south China Seas.
My next holiday, in March 2005, was to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This was not my kind of holiday. It was an all inclusive holiday which I found was not for me. There was plenty of food and drink but they seemed to be of a lower quality. Also a very busy hotel with a lot of people staying there. This made it almost impossible to find a shady place to sit on the beach or by the pool. It was the most expensive holiday I have had!
March 2006, back on the right track an excellent holiday in Kenya complete with a Safari to East & West Tsavo.
March 2007, an eight day tour of Vietnam starting in Hanoi & finishing in Saigon. Then six nights at a beach hotel in Phan Thiet.
December 2007 short trip on the Eurostar to Brussels.
October 2008 and a trip to Peru. Starting at Lima then a flight to Cusco. Which included an overnight at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel at Machu Picchu. Visiting the famous Inca ruins at Machu Picchu.
Then a coach journey, all day, to Puno & Lake Titicaca. Then another flight to Lima and a flight to north Peru to stay at a beach hotel in Mancora for three nights. A flight back to Lima and next day flight back to the UK via Amsterdam.
December 2008 and back to Goa for two weeks of relaxing by the pool or on the nearby beaches. Staying at a fairly new hotel in Arpora North Goa called the Riviera De Goa. The hotel was in a quiet location about two miles to the nearest beach at Baga. A free shuttle bus left the hotel four or five times during the day. A taxi one way cost between 150 & 200 rupees. Christmas & New Year at 32 degrees!
In India the camera I used there was an Olympus OM10, a 35mm film camera, with an Olympus digital camera which was a 1.3mega pixel. Not as good as some camera phones these days!
I have progressed a bit since then and I now own a Nikon F801s 35mm camera & a Nikon D70s SLR Digital camera with a 300mm zoom lens.
New camera Nikon D300 added in 2009.
Oh yes, I was 47 when I had my first trip in an airplane!
